How to create a QR code menu for your restaurant

From menu structure to printed per-table QR codes: 6 steps to go digital without breaking the floor service.

A QR code menu is more than a PDF on a phone. Done right, it's also the ordering channel that removes input errors and frees your team for service. Here's how to do it.

1. Pick the ambition level

Three possible uses, clarify before anything:

  • Read-only menu (customer reads, orders to the server). Level zero, paper equivalent.
  • Menu with ordering (customer adds to cart, server confirms and brings).
  • Menu with ordering + payment (customer pays from their phone). The direct-customer-payment mode — the one that saves you real time.

2. Structure your menu

BipOrder organises the menu in 3 levels: categories, products, options. Done well, the structure mirrors exactly on the customer side, kiosk and kitchen. See [Configure your menu](/aide/configurer-menu-categories-produits-options) for the full method.

3. Care about photos

A menu with photos converts 25-40% better than text-only. Square 800×800 px minimum, natural light, plain background. Avoid saturated filters.

4. Generate per-table QR codes

A unique QR per table is what lets the order route to the right server and the right ticket. In BipOrder: Floor > Tables > Download QR. Print-ready A6 PDF.

Mounting options: transparent sticker on wood, plexi for outdoor, cardboard coaster for bars. Cost: 0.30 to 2 EUR per table depending on the option.

5. Test before opening

Scan 2-3 QR codes yourself with an Android phone and an iPhone. Check display, photos, cart, payment (Stripe test card). Plan a serious 30-minute test.

6. Brief the team

The new flow changes the server's job: less order-taking, more service and advice. A 15-min brief is usually enough. Insist on KDS confirmation and allergen handling.
