Digitising a restaurant in 2026 doesn't mean turning everything digital at once. It's a 4-step journey over 6 to 12 months, fully self-funded if you respect the order.

Step 1 — The basics (months 1-2)

Without these, nothing else stands:

  • A NF525-compliant POS — mandatory in France.
  • A connected payment terminal.
  • An up-to-date Google Business Profile (hours, photos, menu).
  • A simple mobile-first website with your address and menu (or a page from the BipOrder site generator).

Step 2 — Front-of-house digital (months 3-4)

Where you save real time on service:

  • QR ordering at the table (order-only or order + payment).
  • Online reservations with zero commission (external-platform alternative).
  • KDS kitchen display (replaces flyaway paper tickets).
  • Server app on smartphone (mobile order-taking for those who want to keep a touch of "classic service").

Smart order: start with KDS and QR. Reservations can wait — dining-room ordering releases the most time right away.

Step 3 — Online sales (months 5-7)

To open a new revenue channel:

  • Click & collect (order + payment, in-store pickup). Zero commission.
  • In-house delivery via your own drivers if zone < 5 km.
  • Plug in delivery aggregators if local demand exists.
  • WhatsApp bot for repeat orders.

Step 4 — Steering (months 8-12)

You turn data into margin:

  • Cross-channel reports (dine-in / delivery / click & collect).
  • Loyalty / customer app.
  • Digital HACCP (temperature logs, traceability).
  • Self-order kiosk if fast-food with queueing.

How much does it cost?

Realistic budget for a 30-60 cover restaurant:

  • NF525 POS: EUR 30-80/month.
  • BipOrder Pro suite (QR + KDS + reservations + server app): EUR 99/month.
  • Payment terminal: EUR 15-35/month.
  • Website and GBP: free with BipOrder Digital.

Realistic total: EUR 150-220/month. To be compared with the EUR 250-600/month saved on labour, input errors and aggregator commissions.

Classic mistakes to avoid

  • Activating everything at once: staff drops out, you give up. Go step by step.
  • Putting POS and digital on two unconnected vendors: double entry guaranteed.
  • Underestimating training: plan one brief per activated module.
  • Picking a kiosk before testing QR codes. EUR 1500+ investment to validate.
